Books that I've read this month

Oh, I had high hopes for this...I bought it admitedley on the strength of the cover image. If ever too much information was given in the quotes from critics and other authors that sometimes adorn the covers of books...this is one. You pretty much know what kind of story tiu're getting because of the comment chosen on the front cover. I figured the story out about halfway through the text which at best was average, I'm not sure if this was the translation from Japanese to English and losing something along the way. If you know your Japanese horror films then you'll be on familiar territory and perhaps that what prepared me for the story and ultimately left no surprises.

Now this I enjoyyed! I wouldn't have discovered 'Scott Pilgrim' if he hadn't arrived via Boston...thanks Stephanie! It tells the story of 23 year old 'betwen jobs' rock band playing Scott and the events that unfold when he meets Ramona Flowers...
Written and drawn by Bryan Lee O'Malley...it made me smile and served to also give another taster of what can or might be possible if I kick myself a bit...

In other news and decisions since the hospital is ignoring me I am starting to think its time to ignore the literature and to go for it...and make a great escape. I shall announce myself fit to travel into London and to wander aimlessly and to browse in shops and be enveloped by the noise and bustle of the crowded, hostile streets...sounds scary when I put it that way...hmmm watch this space!

Maybe its time to emerge from my protective bubble/cocoon...

Why is the hospital ignoring you? What are the potential health risks of venturing out? The care-tker in me is wanting you to be careful. But getting out sounds very healthy as well.

Gotta love friends who send great books.

I am currently reading "Love in the Time of Cholera"...and only a few pages in, so yet to be determined how good/bad it is.

Do you draw for fun and just playing around?

I ask this because i always wanted to write a comic but cant draw a straight line, if I sent you a few ideas would you be interested in doing some concept art? Just for fun and a past time.

Yay, now you're in the "Has read Scott Pilgrim" club! My favorite scene is toward the end, when Wallace is being helpful. You should most DEFINITELY make your own comic!

Get out if it's safe, and be careful.

I take it that the hospital is ignoring you because it can; that is, the great system we call the NHS is merely showing off?

do you have someone to go with you the first flight out of your cocoon? just balance mental health with patience in terms of getting out...long for, be careful and take care!

i think it is shameful that artfully poised quotes and images lure you into purchasing a book only to discover 1/3 into it that it isn't worth your time because of your highly evolved standards...there is a metaphor to dating somewhere in there...

The hospital is ignoring you??? I say you should contact the consultant's secretary to find out what's up.

Glad you liked it! It makes me laugh too. Will I see a web comic collaboration between fb & nevets in the near future? That would be very cool. Plenty of writer in this place if you want to draw :) Ask TRM about resources if you don't know of them already. She's the one who's responsible for me hearing about Scott Pilgrim in the first place. (Also, Cathy, the author is another great thing from Canada - lives near Halifax, ns)
Stay well & hope you can get out in the world soon!

Good luck in the rentrée Finn, most probably you'll be fine -or the hospital's staff won't be behaving like they do I guess :) -. You count on my concern and even attention re. your new start and surely with that of most of these beautiful persons in here. Keep us posted please!

The hospital ignoring you may be a matter of "no news is good news" ?? Anyhows, a little gentle exercise (wandering around the shops, the park, taking it easy)is probably a good thing. Rug up and don't overdo it. Take care, Meow

Hospital update:

Found a message on the answering service today from yesterday. It seems one of the Patient Liason team based at Harefield called. I know that the Brompton and Harefield are connected but not in terms of geography! Unimpressed!

Phoned my consultants secretary as suggested by Stephanie (Brighton)...good call. Funny thing is after I tell a bit about when i had my operation she says: @you should have had your 6 week check up'. I answer 'No shit', no I didn't...it seems my consultants secretary is no longer with him and the person on the other end is a temporary secretary who then explains due to a fire in Bedford they've lost records?! What?! Anyways she took my contact numbers and said she would call with an appointment time tomorrow...

Confusion rules at the hospital at least it didn't when they took care of me when I was there.

Got a ride into London then went to the usual shops I browse in...forgot just how noisy London is.

nevets
Drawing for fun and playing around and kiling time and trying to figure stuff out...

missy
Do you know 'Gosh' opposite the British Museum they currently have 'Scott Pilgrim' Vol 1 & 2 on their recommended shelf!

TRM
Hello! A rare sighting...nice to read you.

Missgolondon
Please see the above posting on my hospital phonecall! I thnk her explanation of changeover of staff, fires etc became white noise...we shall see if she call s tomorrow!

Your last paragraph explains Internet dating in one go...there are never any critical articles about internet dating in The Guardian is that because they have their own dating site?

Stephanie (Brighton)
I'm getting closer to having my halfway now three quater of the way check up!

Tea and a chat would be grand but how I do get hold of you?

I can't stand in Sydney Street or the Fulham Road and shout 'Yo Stephanie from Brighton!' Can I?!

Stephanie (Boston)
Got a ride into and out of London...found Scott pilgrim Vol 2 was very surprised how loud you have to turn up your iPod to listen to it in London...

You'll like this I got accosted by a very strange African woman in the street...carrying three leaves from a tropical plant who demanded I take care of her because she's a lady. Let me put it this way her speech pattern definitely came from the Al Pacino school of speak normally then SHOUT AT THE END. Thankfully she then wandered off...

omara
Hospital update is up above and had bit of a walk around London yesterday.

meow
Your icon is great...I was sort of doing that when it was too cold to go for walks...well more like marching on the spot but I had a good wander yesterday.

chloe
They're ignoring me because I don't know really...because of the handover of paperwork? because of some sort of fire? we'll see if I get a call with an appointment tomorrow...

If you click on my profile you'll find an email address. Give me a shout and I'll meet you in the hospital lobby or something. There are about 3 canteens at the hospital and I know the best one. :)

On an unrelated note, I too have been accosted by people with leaves. While having lunch at the above-mentionned canteen a small child demanded that I help her pick leaves in the courtyard. She gave all the crappers to me and kept the nice ones for herself. I'm tempted to call her a name that rhymes with itch, but I'll refrain..

Oh, and keep harrassing the hospital. Hope it goes well x
