What do you use as a bookmark(s)?

The question is to everybody who visits.

I tend to use postcards...either movie poster postcards or art postcards.

I'm terrible. I tend to use receipts, gum wrappers or scrap paper for books I'm reading at the time,a dna re casually tossed in my handbag.

I do have one beautiful bookmarker which I use for books that don't leave the house...

Postcards, but generally not the ones I've been getting from people in the mail - more the sort of advertising or reminder kind: "remember to donate blood this month" or something. Also, receipts, the bookmarks that come from my bookstore, my bus pass (which is how it gets lost sometimes...)

If it is about paying attention to the bookmark I will use one made for this purpose: just by looking at something beautiful -that you consider so- is uplifting on itself. I especially like the metal ones with lace patterns and so on and the paper ones with some kind of quote and a decorative motif. Alternatively you can go for a cheaper option and just place a red ribbon, it makes the book look elegant and it's easy to spot.
From the range of doggy options another one is dropping by Fraser's cosmetics departments or similar and accept one of these pieces of paper that the nice girls in there tend to be offering as aromatic samples of new parfums -make sure you like the parfum BTW-.

I dog-ear books!

But one habit I have is writing quotes on the back of my palm... yesterday was: "no limits to self-destructive urges."

I forgot about it until whilst in a meeting, one kept looking at my hand!

Yes - bus, train and plane tickets. When I loan books people will return them to me and say....So you went to Austin 3 years ago, huh?

My mother uses kleenex. It always annoyed me. I use actual bookmarks. I love them; almost as much as books themselves. My husband does too. He lost a book once by leaving it on the roof of the car (he has a habit of leaving things on the roof). He was really upset about it and it turned out he was most upset about the bookmark that was in it. It was a nice leather one from London, actually....

I dog-ear. Permanent creases in the pages mean nothing to me.
